Online Zoom classes by Laurelie Rae in collaboration with Leighton House
Book launch animation by Merve Cirisoglu-Cotur
Back in 2016 we learned about Laurelie Rae's book "Islamic Art and Architecture Memories of Seljuk and Ottoman Masterpieces' and followed her art ever since.
Laurelie Rae is a teaching artist living and making art in Istanbul since 2014. Her areas of interest are Islamic ceramics, drawing and illustration. She is an author and museum education consultant who specializes in traditional and Islamic art methods and techniques. She is currently working on her second book, an illustrated guide to looking at and recreating Islamic patterns.
We were delighted to see that Leighton House and Laurelie Rae launched an online series of workshops during London lockdown exploring how Islamic art inspired British artists. The workshops are deliciously titled and speak for themselves:
Carnations, Cypress and Vases
Tulips and Roses
Cloud Watching and Rumi patterns
Grapes and Pomegranates
Students of all ages and abilities received a brief background on the topic and also had an opportunity to draw together with the artist.
There is only one session left on 25 November, please register now as places are limited.
